Agriculture in Saudi Arabia has improved dramatically over the past decades. Although deserts make up a large part of its area, there are many areas that represent a climate and fertile land for agriculture. The government has contributed to this process by converting large areas of the desert into agricultural fields, through the implementation of major irrigation projects and the adoption of this mechanism on a large scale, and land reclamation, thus adding previously arid areas to the stock of arable land. The state also works in the petroleum and petrochemical industry to a large extent, as it also encourages agriculture, and the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture is primarily responsible for agricultural policies in the country.
